About the Speaker

Anne Merewood PhD MPH IBCLC is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Boston University School of Medicine, where she directs the Center for Health Equity, Education, and Research (CHEER), and an Associate Professor of Community Health Sciences at Boston University School of Public Health.

A former Editor in Chief of the Journal of Human Lactation, Dr Merewood has published widely in the medical literature. Her areas of expertise include implementation system-wide implementation of the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative; breastfeeding support and promotion in American Indian/Alaska Native communities; working with minority and underserved communities; academia, and illicit drug use prevention and management in pregnant and breastfeeding populations.

Dr Merewood has performed system level breastfeeding related work in Alaska, Arizona, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oklahoma, and Texas. She consults regularly for the Indian Health Service and the Rocky Mountain Tribal Leaders Council as well as several American Indian tribes.

She speaks nationally and internationally, and is a member of the American Public Health Association, the International Society for Research into Human Milk and Lactation (ISRHML/former EC member), the Society for Prevention Research, and on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Maternal Child Nutrition.

Anne gained her undergraduate and PhD degrees at Cambridge University, England, and her Masters in Public Health at the Boston University School of Public Health. She has published over 50 papers in the medical peer reviewed literature.
