About the Speaker

Michelle is an experienced, professional facilitator having provided educational support for both parents and professionals prenatally and postpartum for nearly two decades. Michelle’s instructional style incorporates her personal and professional passion for informed parental decision making, along with establishing evidence based breastfeeding policies and practices.Viewing the world through a lens of humor Michelle attempts to drive home concepts, and new learning in an entertaining and relatable manner through the use of reflective activities and various group exercises. Recognizing the change agent role that breastfeeding advocates fill Michelle attempts to draw attention to the holistic needs of the clients we serve and help professionals recognize the unique cognitive, emotional, physical, and spiritual elements which play a role in the provision of breastfeeding advocacy and support.  As a lecturer Michelle brings a unique perspective having practiced as a birth doula, perinatal educator, lactation educator and experienced perinatal professional trainer. In addition to her work as an educator Michelle annually serves thousands of breastfeeding couplets in her role as a lactation consultant for a busy city hospital birth center and NICU. Unlike drawing examples from theory, actively working as a lactation consultant provides Michelle with current professional experience that allows her to personally understand the needs of new parents and families and the obstacles of incorporating evidence based lactation practices, policies, and procedures in the employment setting. Michelle also has experience training and supporting WIC breastfeeding peer counselors.
