Presentations
This speaker is pleased to provide presentations on the following topics to professional and parenting conferences. Presentations on other topics may be available upon request and subject to sufficient development lead-time. (For CERP topics, required paperwork will be provided promptly to meet CERP deadlines.)
Pathway to Pediatrics: Becoming a provider at a pediatric practice
A popular season at ILCA 2010, the session explores the role of the LC as a provider of lactation support and services in the pediatric office. Topics include proposals for creating the position, job description, negotiating your role and reimbursement and insurance filing guidelines based on level of care. There appears to be trend to include lactation services in pediatric practices. Discussion of contracting versus employee status, as well full or partial positions are reviewed.
Jan Ellen Brown has been a provider for a large pediatric practice since 2008. She developed the position and has mentored other LCs to find employment too. This session is topical and practical in scope.
Cystic fibrosis and breastfeeding
Research suggests positive outcomes for the infant or mother with cystic fibrosis. Although resources exist for both, the dyad may receive conflicting information. Lactational professionals are in a unique position to support them. This session will review the physiological, psychological and practical concerns for these families. Other topics for maternal conditions such as Lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, celiac disease, multiple sclerosis can be included this session.
Jan Ellen Brown has worked extensively with families with infant and maternal cystic fibrosis. Her first daughter was diagnosed at age three. A former member of the NC CF Foundation Board of Directors, she facilitated a support and educational group for parents.
