It Takes a Village: a collaborative and cohesive team approach to support the breastfeeding dyad

Time-frame: 90-110

With US breastfeeding initiation rates nearing 95% and higher in some places, why aren’t breastfeeding duration statistics growing?

The AAP recommends exclusive breastfeeding for six months, followed by continued breastfeeding with the addition of complementary foods thereafter. But very few US women are reporting breastfeeding exclusivity for six months. Why?

This presentation will seek to answer this conundrum. Drawing on research by the author, we will explore women’s reasons for discontinuing breastfeeding and discuss ways to collaborate with other healthcare providers to develop a comprehensive and cohesive plan of care that will support women and in turn increase breastfeeding duration.
